“Failed to cache the setup file”: cause and solution
On rare occasions, when you are about to install our products, you might receive an error message saying “Failed to cache the setup file“. On this blog post we will explain its cause and solution.
The downloaded executable setup file (like mail-merge.exe) is actually a self-executable archive that contains all the files required for the product installation. In order to install the software product, it needs to extract the nested software files: this extraction process can fail if the setup file is not given enough Windows system permissions to cache the extracted files (practically, it is not allowed to save the extracted files).
To solve this issue, you have two solutions:
1. make sure your Windows user account has full administration rights, or
2. install an extraction program (if you don’t have one already, just go here: http://www.7-zip.org/ and install 7-zip – it’s free), then extract the .msi file located in the setup file. Just right click the setup file and choose “Extract Here” from the 7-Zip section. Afterwards, run the .msi file and everything should work correctly.
The above solutions apply to all our products: Email Address Collector, Easy Mail Merge, Bells & Whistles for Outlook, Auto Reply Manager, Auto Follow Up, Weight Diet for Outlook, QuickList.
